DAS hosted a hustings ahead of the 2016 Scottish Parliament election.

Through the event DAS gave people with a range of disabilities a chance to put their views to a panel of parliamentary candidates. All Scottish parties acknowledged the importance of social inclusion in the election campaign. The panel included:

  • Jamie Hepburn, representing the SNP and recently Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health, candidate for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth
  • Michael Shanks, representing Labour, works with a disability charity, candidate for Glasgow Kelvin
  • Robert Brown, Liberal Democrats, former Health minister, candidate for Rutherglen and list candidate for Glasgow
  • Graeme Brooks, Scottish Conservative candidate for Greenock and Inverclyde
  • Zara Kitson, Scottish Greens list candidate for Glasgow

The discussion was chaired by Billy Watson, Chief Executive of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) and former Chair of DAS.
