Our Stories

DAS is both informed and driven by the experiences of those who are supported by our members.  Their stories convey the challenges of living with a disability and the barriers that they often face.  Here are some of their stories.

Daniel battled with suicide and depression before support from SAMH helped him towards recovery.

My name is Kitty, I am 66 and I have had Cerebral Palsy from birth. When I was young I never really minded being disabled, in a silly way I thought that when I grew up it would all go away, crazy eh!

Mark Wilson is an assistant engineer with Dundee City Council. Mark is severely short-sighted. "I have high myopia, with complicating conditions such as nystagmus and astigmatism," he explains.

David Didston is a man who is renowned for his respectable work ethic. The 38-year-old has been a valued member of staff at The Time Capsule in Coatbridge for more than a decade and states that his job there has changed his life for the better.
